Application of metallurgy
Fluorine has many applications in metallurgical industries due to its ability to help melting. Among its applications, we can mention iron casting and production of iron alloys.
Production of electrodes, aluminum, steel industries
Based on the survey, electrode production, aluminum and steel industries account for more than 95% of fluorine consumption.
Based on this, about 90 thousand tons of fluorine are consumed by these industries every year. The consumption limits of each of these industries are as follows.
- Steelmaking industries 75-85 thousand tons
- Aluminum production industries 5-10 thousand tons
- Welding electrode production industries 1-5 thousand tons
- Other industries (ceramic glass making) 1-2 thousand tons
military application (rocket fuel)
Some researchers have investigated the possibility of using pure fluorine gas as rocket fuel, because this gas has a high specific impact.
Application in ceramic industries
In the ceramic industry, fluorine is used in the production of white glasses and glazes. In these materials, fluorine acts both as a melting aid and as a matting agent. The use of fluorine in this industry should be careful, because of other reactions that It forms with other components of the glaze, it causes the corruption of these compounds and the creation of pinholes in the glaze.
